I presented new research on the news media industry labor force at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) conference in Philadelphia, USA, on Aug. 8. I examined trends in news worker pay, self-employment and unionization rates in the US since 2000. My paper was grounded in both untapped and publicly available data obtained from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

My paper was featured on the panel “On Air, Online, and Over the Top: Impacts of Technology on Labor in U.S. Local TV Newsrooms.”
